Print Management FAQ’s

What does Print Management do?

At Birch Print, we take your print brief and manage it all for you. From proofing to print, finishing to stocking, to final delivery to destination. We’ll manage the whole print process.

Who are Print Management clients?

Sales and marketing agencies, manufacturers, financial institutions, corporate marketing and communications departments, agency production supervisors, graphic designers, commercial printers … the list goes on.

Why should I use Print Management?

Print Management is a one shop fixes all. We will manage your total print requirements from print audit through to production and delivery. We do all the hard graft for you – you just have to choose the option that best suits your project.

If I choose Print Management, do I delegate all project aspects or can I ‘pick and choose’?

You can choose which services you want us to handle for you. We’re well equipped and experienced in handling entire projects or just parts of it – so you can decide the type of Print Management you require from us.

What is print fulfilment?

Print fulfilment is part of our Print Management service. Our print fulfilment services team are always at the ready to prepare, pick and pack each element of your project or order. Whether you want to dispatch items overseas or directly to your door, we’ll look at the most suitable delivery options. And if you have tight deadlines, we will look at a wide range of shipping options to suit.

How do I choose the right paper and printing for my project?

We have a wealth of knowledge when it comes to print supplies in the UK. We make recommendations based on what you want your finished project to look like. We’ll provide options and samples to meet your expectations and budget.

What resolution should I save my photos and graphics in?

Resolution should be set to 300dpi. Avoid pictures and graphics pulled from the internet as they are often low resolution; 72dpi or 96dpi – these will appear pixelated when printed. Save all photos in CMYK. RBG may not print properly.

Which file format should I submit my electronic document in for printing?

PDF (Portable Document Format) is the most common and preferred file format for submitting digital documents. Both commercial and free PDF print drivers are available online for download from different sources.

What is a proof and why is it important to look at?

A proof is a one-off copy of your document after all modifications and printing setup processes have been completed. It is your last opportunity to make sure the print job comes out the way you want. Carefully inspect the proof to assure accurate, flawless delivery on the first run.

What is the Pantone Matching System?

Pantone Matching System (PMS) is a colour reproduction standard where colours across the spectrum are identified by a unique, independent number. PMS allows us to precisely match colours and maintain colour consistency through the printing process.

Why do printing colours look different from the colours on my screen?

Monitors use RGB (red, green, blue). Printers use CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, black). CMYK generally matches 85-90% of RBG. When a colour is selected from RGB that is out of range of CMYK, the application chooses what it thinks is the closest match.
